Abstract:
We study a relativistic generalization of the Kramers-Henneberger transformation applied for an atom interacting with a plane-wave laser pulse. Our method, similar to that introduced by Krstic and Mittleman [1] for the monochromatic case, is based on a unitary transformation connecting the standard representation of the Dirac equation for a particle in the laser field to the free-particle Dirac equation in the Foldy-Wouthuysen representation. It leads to a Dirac equation containing the electromagnetic field only via a modified potential V`. We discuss a possible approximation of the translated equation leading to a Schrodinger-like equation, applicable for atoms with low atomic number. We study the properties of the translated potential and an efficient method for integrating the time-dependent equation. [1] P. S. Krstic and M. H. Mittleman, Phys. Rev.
