Abstract:
Following a EU’s Comenius network project and a research grant received from the National Agency for Scientific Research the National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics established a special unit to support science and technology teaching in schools, the Center for Science Education and Training (CSET) – http://education.inflpr.ro. The Center mission is to assist teachers and teaching supporting personnel in improving science education at pre-university level, from kindergarten to high school. The Cenmter organizes workshops and training courses for teachers, science club activities with partner schools, science contests and science fairs for students. It coordinates at national level the educational network “Hands-on Science – Romania”, part of the International “Hands-on Science” Association (www.hsci.info), dedicated to science teaching through experiment. The paper presents the most important projects and activities run by the Center, based on national and international collaboration. The Center has to cooperations with similar entities in United States and is the national coordinator for the EU’s project Pollen (http://www.pollen-europa.net/?page=CLDGDJVwskY%3D). Every year, the Center organizes an international workshop on “Science Education in School” and a science fair with international participation. The major achievements of the last year will be also introduced, as well as the coming, planned activities.
