Abstract:
CdS / CdTe based solar cells have been deposited using thermal vacuum evaporation (TVE) method. The CdS and CdTe polycrystalline thin films were deposited on optical glass substrates covered with different TCO’s layers (ITO, FTO, IZO, etc.) with different thicknesses and electrical resistances. In order to improve the structural and chemical properties of the prepared films, a complex mixture of post-deposition thermal and chemical treatments were performed on all samples. The optical constants of the deposited films, respectively, the refractive indices and extinction coefficients, as well as the thicknesses, were measured using the spectroscopic ellipsometry technique, in the wavelength range of 250 – 1700 nm. The optical band-gaps of the films were calculated from the absorption spectra using a UV-VIS double beam spectrophotometer. The obtained values for optical band-gaps were compared with those obtained from the ellipsometric spectra. These investigations were completed with structural and morphological characterization by X-Ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)for a more detailed evaluation of the CdS and CdTe thin films. Finally, the electric measurements of the prepared solar cells were performed and cells parameters were obtained.
