Abstract:
The implementation of the first European, world-class research infrastructure in Romania has begun. Extreme Light Infrastructure -Nuclear Physics will bring to the scientific community the possibility of performing experiments with laser light of unprecedented power and
ultra-intense gamma beams, and the unique feature of using both kinds of radiation in the same experiment. Researchers from institutes,universities and companies worldwide have expressed their interest for ELI-NP and contributed to its scientific case. An overview on the
status of the implementation, the challenges and the perspectives of ELI-NP will be presented.
