Abstract:
The interaction between Xe atoms and graphite has been studied by using a surface model of six atomic basal layers. The energy of incoming atoms is in the range of 0.5eV and 25eV. The calculations were carried out in the frame of an original package based on molecular dynamics approach. Morse potentials were used for C-C, C-He, C-Xe interactions. Atomic inter-planar interactions was calculated considering Lenard Jones (6,12) potential. The assumed parameters lead to an acceptable agreement between the output of our calculations regarding the angular distribution of the scattered atoms and the corresponding published data. The incident beam is simulated by randomisation of the impact sites with the same probability for each distinct symmetry position on the graphite surface. The energy exchange between the incident atoms and the basal planes of graphite was investigated versus time on getting a dynamic view for the system behaviour, useful to understand potential techniques for the carbon clusters extraction by using neutral atomic beams.
