Abstract: Applications of radiation sources in industrial laboratories, medical units and research institutes require a special training of the qualified personnel for the proper development and implementation of nuclear physics research results.
Professor Horia HULUBEI realized from early beginning the importance of this specialization and initiated, since 1960, together with Physics and Mathematics Faculty, a post university training course on the utilization of isotopes and radiation sources.
In 1970, under the authority of the State Committee for Nuclear Energy has been organized the Nuclear Training Centre (CPSDN) with the purpose of post secondary training and post university specialization of personnel involved in nuclear practices.
During almost 50 years of activity, CPSDN has developed many training forms dedicated to nuclear applications, permanently adjusted both to the technical upgrading and to the related regulatory requirements from the field. The most important activities to be mentioned are the training programmes (almost 720) for:
o personnel involved in nuclear applications (industry, medicine, research, agriculture, etc.)
o personnel involved in the nuclear power programme, (design, equipment, components supply for Unit 1 of Cernavoda NPP and operating personnel,1987 – 1990)
o personnel involved in the activities related to the decommissioning of VVR-S Research Reactor
with more then 17.800 graduates.
CPSDN envisages the continuous improvement of training services quality by diversifying the training offers and improving services performances. A first step towards the analyze of the performance level of its own activity is the certification, in 2007, of CPSDN Quality Management System according to EN IS0 9001:2000, by TÜV HESSEN, through TÜV CERT.
Romanian recent accession to the European Union involves new challenges for nuclear education and training. In this context CPSDN is decided to become European competitive training provider for the nuclear field according to its EUTERP(“EUropean Training and Education in Radiation Protection”) and ENEN (“European Nuclear Education Network”) member statute.
