Abstract:
The NIO-AL2O3 systems play an important role in the redox catalysis. The activity and the selectivity of such catalysts depend on the starting materials, on the way of their preparation and on the thermal treatment they are submitted to. The UV-Vis diffuse-reflectance spectroscopy can successfully be used to determine the site symmetry of the Ni2+ ions in AL2O3. In this work, the diffuse-reflectance spectra of the NIO-AL2O3 systems in the 350-800 nm spectral domain are analyzed. Coexistence of two types of Ni2+ complexes with ortohedral (Oh) and tetrahedral (Th) symmetries respectively is discussed in the connection with the sample preparation and their thermal treatment.
