Abstract:
New bionanohybrids with high antioxidant capacity have been developed based on SWCNTs (carboxylated, respective hydroxylated) and flavonoids. Chemiluminiscence, AFM, FT-IR and Raman shown a self assembling via OH or COOH groups for each specific flavonoids. Flavonoids are a group of polyphenolic compounds with known properties which include free radical scavenging, inhibition of hydrolytic and oxidative enzymes and anti-inflammatory action. The antioxidant activity of flavonoids is mainly due to their redox properties, which allow them to act as reducing agents, hydrogen donors, and singlet oxygen quenchers. It is shown these properties are amplified when they are supported on CNT. DSC and Thermogravimetry shown a specific interaction with bonding to the hydroxyl/carboxyl groups.
