Abstract:
One of the methods frequently used to describe the ionization of atomic species under the action of a short duration intense laser pulse is based on the projection of the wave function (at the end of laser-atom interaction) on continuum states with adequate asymptotic behavior. We apply the method for the case of an electron in a central potential, interacting with a laser pulse. We first address the problem of the numerical calculation of phase shifts and of radial eigenfunctions, then we present some numerical results for photoelectron distributions corresponding to laser frequencies in xuv range. For potentials which are of Coulomb type outside of a sphere of finite radius we investigate the possibility, discussed in [1], to work with simplified scattering solutions in the Coulomb zone. We compare the results obtained this way with those computed by a different method [2], which fully avoids the use of scattering states. [1] L. B. Madsen, L. A. A. Nikolopoulos, T. K.
