Abstract:
This study summarizes the current severe weather warnings and forecast operations in National Meteorological Administration (NMA), Romania, and shows the Romanian severe weather warning service and its developments. This study represents an evaluation of the 5 years of warnings and is based on the warnings of severe weather in the convective season (May to September) from 2003 until 2007 issued by the Romanian regional centers, which are 7 - Transylvania Nord in the Northern Romania, Transylvania South in the Center of Romania, Banat in Western Romania, Oltenia and Muntenia in Southern Romania, Moldova in Eastern Romania and Dobrogea next to the Black Sea, and cover the entire Romanian territory. The severe weather warnings are issued based on the following meteorological parameters: heavy rain, cloud-to-ground lightning, strong winds and hail, using numerical weather prediction models, information from the Romanian weather radar network and information from the meteorological weather stations and the rain gauges, as well.
