Abstract:
The paper focused attention on the behavior of anomalies that persisted beyond the durations associated with synoptics scale variability (persistent anomalies). We found that, for the eastern part of Europe, the majority of persistent anomaly cases were associated with blocking patterns. Analyses of variance and lag autocorrelation characteristics suggested that the most of the temporal variability of the patterns was contributed by low frequency, intrasesonal fluctuations (predominant by periods between 10 and 90days).
