Abstract: The condensation atmospheric nuclei are generally, mixed nuclei, composed both of soluble and insoluble substances. It is known that many of soluble substances (e.g., salts) have the property to form electrolytic solutions.
We consider a nucleus of condensation and in order to simplify the problem, we assume that it contains only one soluble substance and one insoluble substance. If we assume that all soluble substance is dissolved at the time of condensation of the atmospheric water vapors in a nucleus, then the resulted drops will be formed from an electrolyte containing the insoluble substance.
The system to be studied includes a gaseous phase (g), composed of dry air and water vapors, a liquid phase (l) composed of liquid water and dissolved salt, a solid phase (s), made up of an insoluble substance and two surfaces of separation: gas-liquid and liquid-solid. Thus, there are four components: dry air (1), water (2), dissolved salt (3), and insoluble substance (4). Assuming that the drop and insoluble nucleus are spherical, as the mass of insoluble substance is constant with time, the conclusion is that, at the equilibrium, there are only three independent intensive variables to describe the system.
