Abstract:
During the past 22 years, there has been at least a case a year of major flooding or otherwise severe flash floods in various regions Romania. We have studied subjectively the synoptic context in which these events took place. The method was to identify the general circulation of air over Europe, in Hess-Brezowsky typology, and the general circulation over Romania in each of the cases. We present results centered around statistics based on the information about each event, and a simple model of identifying the potentially hazardous synoptic contexts in Europe and Romania that are directly related to air circulation reduced at sea level.
