Abstract:
In precipitation scavenging of gases, the rate of transfer of gas molecules to the surface of stationary or falling droplet can be accurately predicted. The flux of gases species to a cloud or raindrop is expressed by the species¡¦ mass transfer coefficient (cm„ªsec-1). The coefficient depends on air viscosity, gas diffusivity, and on Reynolds number and the limit falling velocity of rain drop. The aim of this paper is to compute the mass transfer coefficients for the gases which influence acidity of rain, like SO2, CO2, CS2, NHO3 and different rain types (averse, moderate, light). The results emphasize the dependence of the mass transfer coefficient on the type of precipitation (by the size distribution) and if the gas is reversibly or irreversibly soluble.
