Abstract:
In the first part of the talk we review the basic properties of roton-maxon spectrum of density waves in dipolar Bose-Einstein condensates and show that the spectrum can be recovered by variational means. In the second part we show in detail how to treat analytically the non-local interaction and derive a set of effective equations which describe both the collective modes of the condensate and the emergence of density waves.
