Abstract:
Since the discovery of sun quakes (Kosovichev & Zharkova, 1998) a lot of work has been put into understanding the phenomena responsible with for triggering acoustic activity. One step toward a possible understanding of this phenomenon could be the results from hydrodynamic simulations of the atmosphere between the flare and the photosphere. Using radiative hydrodynamic simulations (RADYN - Carlsson & Stein, 1995) of moderate and strong solar flares, we have simulated the solar atmospheric response to a beam of nonthermal electrons accelerated during flares, focusing on understanding the generation of acoustic disturbances at the photospheric level. The downward-directed radiation known as "back-warming": heating of the lower atmosphere due to increased photoionizations is believed to be the main mechanism generating sun quakes. We present flare simulations of RADYN for electron beam fluxes of 10^8, to 10^11 egs/cm^2/s.
