Abstract:
The paper intends to compare the results of the main types of cell calulations obtained with libraries generated from different basic nuclear data, for Pressurized Water Reactor case. IAEA nuclear data libraries from WIMS Libraries Updates Project were used. The computations were performed by using different versions of WIMS computer code. The results for WIMS-D4 version using 69 energy groups libraries and WIMS-D5B version using 172 energy groups libraries are compared with the IAEA benchmark problem results. The benchmark problems considered for this work are light water moderated lattices of various fuel types in hexagonal pattern, the temperature being 293 K (for all components). Measurements on material buckling and some spectral indexes are given also in the benchmark problem. The chosen benchmark problems specifications are: (a) UO2-LW-ANL-ZPR7b1: seven critical lattices of enriched uranium oxide rods (4.95 wt% 235U), fuel density 10.2 g/cm3, lattice pitch 1.27 cm, lattice volume of moderator/volume of fuel 0.43, clad material stainless steel, experimental material buckling B2 0.009147 ± 0.000068 cm-2, q value 0.450 (q is a parameter characterizing the lattice, being defined as number of fission neutrons that slow down below 2.6 eV); (b) TH3-LW-BNL-bnl_thh201: eight subcritical lattices of 3% 233UO2 – 97% ThO2 rods, lattice pitch 3.033 cm, lattice volume of moderator/volume of fuel 0.9970, clad material Zircaloy2 with a density of 6.83659 g/cm3, experimental buckling B2 0.007588 ± 0.0002 cm-2, q value 0.503; (c) MOX-LW-GE-ge_pu1: six lattices of depleted uranium oxide (0.22 wt% 235U ) – plutonium oxide rods, fuel density 9.65 g/cm3, lattice pitch 1.397 cm, lattice volume of moderator/volume of fuel 1.100, clad material Zircaloy-2, experimental buckling B2 0.00480 ± 0.00012 cm-2, q value 0.563. Plutonium isotopic composition (wt%) is considered as follows: 239Pu - 91.41, 240Pu - 7.83, 241Pu - 0.73, 242Pu - 0.03; total Pu in the fuel being 1.5 wt%.
