Abstract:
We study the inelastic scattering of X photons on atoms, with one electron ejected in continuum. We analyse the process within the nonrelativistic independent particle approximation, for the case of high incident photon energy, using the theory of asymptotic Fourier transform. In a similar way with that followed in [1] for photoionization, we examine the matrix element of the process in terms of singularities of the electronic wave functions and of the interactions. We consider two regimes: a)the scattered photon and the electron have comparable energies, and b)the scattered photon energy tends to zero, and we derive simple expressions for the matrix element.
