Abstract:
Meteorological conditions and snow characteristics in Fagaras and Bucegi Mountains are analyzed for the periods when the avalanche estimated risk according to the European avalanche danger scale was high (4) and very high (5). High risk (4): 01-19 december 2010, 19-21 february 2011, 26-27 february 2011, 12-23 april 2011. Very high risk (5): 13-17 april 2011. Synoptic and mesoscale context was analyzed, as well as daily and hourly trends for the meteorological parameters registered at the stations with snow measurements program included: air temperature (as well as minimum and maximum), wind direction and speed, precipitation amount and type, cloudiness, insolation, snow depth, snow density, snow crystal type.
