Abstract:
Small demonstration gaseous detectors: ionization chamber and spark chamber are in construction at the Nuclear and Elementary Particle Physics Group. In the simplest geometry, an ionization chamber consists in a vessel which acts as a cathode wherein at least one anode is disposed in the centre of the chamber. The prototype developed in the laboratory is a versatile design that permits to investigate different geometries for the anode: a shielding grid surrounding the anode, double wire anode off axis, anode in the wall of the chamber, etc., for providing better detection results. Also, a prototype of a spark chamber consisting of twelve 30 x 19 cm^2 plates has been built and description of its constructive details as well as of the associated electronics circuit is given. The project is in its early stage and the final design is yet to be decided. Discussions of the preliminary results obtained are done.
