Abstract:
A significant importance in operative work due to the damages produced in the field has the hail. The aim of this paper is to create the specific nomogram of the Moldavia region and to emphasize its practical usefulness. There were analyzed hail cases identified by the algorithm WSR-98D Doppler radar at Barnova – Iasi county from 2005 to 2010. There were used the following radar products: HI (Hail Index) product useful in indentifying cells that have a big potential to produce hail, VIL (Vertically Integrated Liquid), density VIL (DVIL), ET (Echo Top), Base Reflectivity and the height of freezing level. The storms identified over five years were plotted on a diagram (the cases with hail and the ones without it, depending on the height of freezing level (hPa) and the ratio of cloud depth above and below freezing level). This nomogram is usefull to establish the potential for convective storms with hail for the Moldavia region.
