Abstract:
Spectroscopic characterization of multicomponent systems such as petroleum products has been a topic of great interest, where chemical species are analyzed with respect to the overall spectral characteristics systems.Common spectroscopic techniques need tedious separation procedures for characterization of complex mixture systems. Among these techniques fluorescence spectroscopy has the advantage of obtaining real time data by simply diluting samples, but requires a prior calibration for each component when quantitative measurements are needed. To obtain fluorescence fingerprints characteristic for petroleum contaminants excitation-emission matrices (EEM) fluorescence spectroscopy, plotted as 2D maps, were recorded. The inner filter effect was analyzed in order to evidence its effect on the accuracy of measurements.
