Abstract:
Many of the deviced dedicated to ionizing radiation detection and measurement contain macromolecular materials. So, among the detectors that operate on the electrical effects of ionizing radiation (the ionization of gases, for onstance) is the ionization chamber type detector, that widly uses macromolecular materials for insulating components, as well as for wall material. Other important categories of ionizing radiation detectors, made of macromolecular materials are: scintillation plastic detectors and radiographic films for radiodiagnosys radiology, radiotherapy dosimetry and radiological protection. A new type of film used in radiotherapy dosimetry is the radiochromic film, whose composition is equivalent to that of human tissue. The tissue-equivalent materials, used for phantoms which simulate the biological tissues, in order to allow the absorbed dose in tissue measurements are also macromolecular materials; their use is very important for the accurate measurement of the absorbed dose in human tissues, during all the radiological medical procedures (both for radiodiagnosys and radiotherapy). The paper deals with some of this appliances of the macromolecular materials in the team CMRID of the Horia Hulubei National Institute for R&D in Physics and Nuclear Engineering (IFIN-HH Bucharest).
