Abstract:
A laser diode (LD) displays chaotic behaviour when subjected to optical feedback from an external reflector, and the configuration is known as external-cavity semiconductor laser (ECSL). Coupling of two chaotic lasers as transmitter and receiver can result in total synchronization of their nonlinear output and has shown great promise in achieving secure communications encoded with chaos between these types of optical systems. In the present work we aimed to experimentally evaluate the synchronization degree of two visible laser diodes in conditions of optical feedback provided of unselective external reflectors (mirrors).
