Abstract:
Nowadays, an imperative problem is to improve the use of green energy. We are considering that the students must be familiarized with devices that use green energy. That is why we present here some aspects concerning the study of the photovoltaic (PV) cell in high school. In introduction we give a short presentation of the PV cell structure, including the development of the corresponding devices. We perform an experimental study of a PV cell. The current-potential characteristic of the PV cells (extracted from a batteries charger) under illumination is obtained connecting it to a variable resistor and a data acquisition board. The graphic representation of the mentioned characteristic and the table with the registered values are obtained with suitable software. The generated power of the cell proves that even in a very sunny day, the energy conversion efficiency is not high. Consequently, in order to obtain a useful power we have to link many cells.
