Abstract: Neodymium-Iron-Boron and Terbium-Iron are materials that exhibit special magnetic properties, such as high energy product [(BH)max] or high magnetostrictivity, and are being used in a large number of applications, in bulk or as thin films (i.e.: in electrical engineering, electronics, for high-tech devices, etc). Thermal analysis of these compounds was performed in order to evidentiate the oxidizing characteristics and their thermal behaviour. Thin films were deposited on silicon substrates by pulsed laser ablation/deposition (PLD) using a Nd:YAG laser working at 266 nm and were characterized by vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD).
