Abstract:
In He-Ne laser plasma there are two levels – 3s2 and 2s2 – for which the population density is higher than for lower 2p levels. Two powerful laser radiations (λ=632,8 nm; 3s2-2p4 transition and λ=1,15 μm; 2s2-2p4 transition) are very well known. Obviously, having a common lower level, there must exist a competition meaning that the small signal gain for 632,8 nm is diminished if the laser operation take place for both radiations. The gain was measured using the method of intra-cavity rotatable reflector. The experimental set-up consists of a laser tube 1,6 meters discharge length Brewster windows ended, an intra-cavity rotatable plate, a methane cell and a pair of reflecting mirrors. The gain for 632,8 nm was measured when the oscillation takes place only for it and, alternatively, when the oscillation takes place both for 632,8 nm and 1,15 μm. A consistent difference of small signal gain coefficient values demonstrates the competition existence.
