Abstract:
We give general expressions for two second-order perturbed wavefunctions describing a charged particle in a given potential and interacting with a weak monochromatic electromagnetic plane wave. The assumptions adopted are: 1) the dipole approximation is valid, 2) the interaction is introduced adiabatically, and 3) in the remote past the wavefunction is a particular stationary state of energy E which is an eigenstate of the matrix defined by the Rayleigh amplitudes reduced to the subspace attached to E. The two wavefunctions correspond to the velocity and length gauge, respectively. The relation between them is analyzed. An application to the case of the Coulomb field and the first excited Bohr levelis presented.
