Abstract:
A lot of avalanches happens each winter in the Romanian Carpathians. Besides important forest damages, almost every winter people are caught in avalanches and some of them die. An avalanche triggered a group of climbers on 2007 march 07 in the Fagaras Mountains; three of them have been burried in the snow and needed medical assistance. The estimated avalanche risk was high (4 on an european avalanche risk scale). The study examines the synoptic conditions before and during the day of march 07, together with the evalution of all meteorological and snow parameters.
