Abstract:
The transits of Venus across the disk of the Sun are very rare phenomena. Starting with the first written observational evidence in 1639, there were only five occurrences of such an event, in 1761, 1769, 1874 and 1882. Our intention is to study the so called Black Drop phenomenon which appears near the contact point between the Sun`s limb and the apparent disk of Venus and so far has no satisfactory explanation. In addition, we will theoretically investigate the appearance of a blackbody spectrum (a good approximation in the case of the Sun) after the interaction with a Venus-like atmosphere. Observationally speaking, the event will be recorded using a video and/or a CCD camera mounted on small reflector-type astronomical instruments.
