Abstract:
We will present recent research of a model to sustain the idea that the asymmetry and the “fine structure” found in pattern of the mean weekly Wolf number for each solar cycle are a result of non-linear interactions inside the Sun. Starting from the deconvolution of the Wolf number time series for each cycle in two Gaussian function, we show that in some case non-linear differential equations (NDE) could be used to reproduce the data. Candidate for that phenomenological NDE could be the van der Pol equation, non-linear coupled oscillator equation, or other equations that describe relaxation oscillations. A comparative study of these possibilities is presented, and we show that at this moment the best one found is the non-linear coupled oscillator equation. Physical arguments are presented in order to sustain the choice, and further arguments are presented that could relate Wolf number time series to the fusion nuclear reactions from the Sun’s core.
