Abstract:
The refractive index values of the xNa2O.(1-x)P2O5 glasses with are discussed in the context of molar refractivity Rm and molar volume Vm, which are related to the refractive index n of isotropic materials by the Lorentz-Lorenz expression To obtain the molar volumes we consider the additivity of the ionic volumes. The molar refractivities are obtained by addition of the ionic refractivities of the cations and of the oxygen ions.
