Abstract:
The paper presents the results of an abduction type study concerning the answer to the following question: What is the better long-term strategy of teaching Nature Sciences for Romania? We start in this design from a set of common accepted facts as: 1) Worldwide alarming decline in young people’s interest for key science studies and mathematics. 2) There is firm evidence that indicates a connection between attitudes towards science and the way science is taught. 3) While most of the Nature Science education community agrees on the fact that pedagogical practices based on Inquiry-Based Science Education (IBSE) and on Problem-Based Learning (PBL) are more effective, the reality of classroom practice is that in most European countries, actual science teaching does not follow this approach etc. The main result of this study is the necessity of increasing role of academic institutions at all levels of the Educational System: a) decision and control, b) curriculum, c) teaching means and methods etc.
