Abstract:
Working in a hospital makes you realize that you have to choose the best kit for bone scintigraphy. Bone cintigraphy is used to diagnose a lot of diseases like: a bone tumor or cancer, a fracture when it cannot be seen by a regular X-ray device, a bone infection (osteomyelitis). Scintigraphy is used to determine if a cancer that begun elsewhere in the patient body has spread to the bones and to evaluate metabolic disorders (renal osteodystrophy, Paget disease, etc). In this work it was compared two scintigraphy kits: hydroxymethylene diphosphonate (HDP) and methylene-diphosphonate (MON.MDP), using the characteristics mentioned in the prospect. Was also measured the activity of the patient`s urine after they were injected with 99mTc along with one of the kits. It was also studied how 99mTc distributes itself in bones and in the soft tissues. As a result, it can be conclude that each laboratory should choose the best kit taking into consideration the number of patients, the amount of water drunk by the patients, the activity introduced in the vial prior to injection, and the time allocated for the investigation.
