Abstract:
The distinguishability between non-orthogonal quantum states is a fundamental problem in quantum information theory. The recently discovered quantum Chernoff bound provides a minimal error probability in discriminating between two hypotheses when a large number of observations is performed. We calculate and plot two measures of distinguishability, the fidelity and the Chernoff bound, for mixed spin-1/2 states using the method of Calsamiglia et al..
