Abstract:
Eye safety is an essential requirement for current laser applications developed in populated areas. We report eye safe optical parametric oscillators, with PPKTP crystals, pumped by 1064 nm wavelength radiation of Nd:YAG lasers. The optical parametric oscillator with PPKTP crystal was pumped by a Nd:YAG laser, with the pulse energy in the range of hundreds of mJ, single longitudinal mode, 10 nsec pulsewidth. Signal pulse energy at 1.5 mm of as much as 250 mJ at 650 mJ pump pulse energy, for 50% reflectivity of the OPO output mirror, was obtained. The maximum conversion efficiency was 39%, much higher than regular KTP crystals using the same pump energy. Low energy OPO`s can be used in range finders, micromaching, microsurgery, spectroscopy.
