Abstract:
In the present paper three intermediate-depth earthquakes occurred in the Vrancea region were selected in order to compare waveforms recorded by stations belonging to National Seismic Network with those computed for a horizontally layered structure using the reflectivity method.The selected events are among the largest recently recorded, with similar hypocenters and a great number of seismic stations with sufficiently high signal-to-noise ratio. Travel times analysis and various comparisons between recorded and synthetic seismograms are performed along two profiles, one following the Eastern Carpathians, the other following the Southern Carpathians. Systematic differences are noticed indicating, a higher velocity lithosphere structure in the study area as compared with the standard IASPEI model.
