Abstract:
The conformational behavior of the Scleroglucan ( a non ionic polysaccharide) in aqueous solutions was investigated as function of pH and temperature. The main experimental techniques were: light scattering, optical rotation and viscosimetry. For low molecular weight Scleroglucan (Mn 105g·mol-1) formation of cholesteric mesophases is observed in aqueous solutions either by cooling or by increasing the polymer concentration; while for high molecular weight, formation of gels occurs under same conditions. Low angle neutron scattering and X-ray diffraction should provide supplementary information on the dilute and semi-dilute solutions. References: 1. T.Yanaki, T.Norisuye, Polym. J., 15, 389, 1983. 2.
