Abstract:
The study analyzes the Doppler velocity fields obtained with S-band radar WSR-98D from Medgidia in severe weather situations during convective seasons of the years 2003 – 2007. For statistical analysis we used only 3.40elevation, at this elevation Doppler velocity field highlighting very well tropospheric flow. For days with severe convection in the mentioned time interval Doppler velocity field was mediated on 24 hours. This mediation is associated with the dynamic state associated with mesoscale (vertical wind shear). Averaged Doppler velocity fields were divided into classes according to the tropospheric flow direction. Mean tropospheric circulations direction was divided into 8 quadrants (N, NE, E, SE, S, SV, V, NV) based on motion of convective systems or convective cells in radar reflectivity field. For each class corresponding to a particular quadrant were analyzed averaged Doppler velocities fields to see the intensity of flow (tropospheric jets) and vertical shear configurations.
