Abstract:
This paper presents the matrix formalism required for studying the polarization properties of different samples using a Mueller matrix imaging polarimeter, in transmission. The Mueller matrix imaging polarimeter used is a dual rotating retarder laser polarimeter, in which the sample (with enough good transparency), will be illuminated with different calibrated polarized states, followed by the analysis of the polarized light that arrived at a detector (a spatially resolved image of the sample). The Mueller matrices of both the polarization state generator and the polarization state analyzer of the Mueller matrix imaging polarimeter will be theoretically calculated. The experimental arrangement can be used in applications related on the investigation of the polarization properties for a wide range of samples.
