Abstract: This paper describes the results of tests and measurements available in Testing and Nuclear Expertise Laboratory of “Horia Hulubei” National Institute for Physics and Nuclear Engineering (I.F.I.H. – HH), Romania, for closed sources of 192 Ir. These sources were putted under the influences of the mechano-climatic conditions. This kind of source is used for gammagraphy procedures in same manufacture processes. The main condition for these sources is to preserve the tightness of the capsules in which there is the radioactive material, after mechano-climatic tests.
Tests, measurement methods and equipments used, comply with Romanian and international standards foresights and also with CNCAN (The National Commission for Nuclear Activities Control ) and AIEA (International Agency for Nuclear Energy) regulations.For avoiding working people exposure to ionisation radiations, the tests and measurements was performed on the welding capsules, free of radioactive material.There were used 5 arc argon welded stainless capsules.The tests and measurements which were performed are:
- thermal shock ( - 400C, 20 minutes, than 1 hour at +4000C and than rash to 200C);
- external pressure (25kPa…2MPa);
- mechanic shock (free drop of a 5 kg bare);
- vibrations;
- boring (0,4 kg boring hammer);
- thermal conditions for storage and transportation (-400C …+700C).
Every test was followed by the tightness verification for each capsule. All the 5 capsules passed this condition.
The tests above are same of these which are performed in I.F.I.H. – HH for qualification and for obtaining the radiological security authorization and the produceing authorization from the national body controlling the nuclear activities (CNCAN). Than, the closed sourses of 192 Ir will be sold to industrial agents which manufacture equipments for gammagraphy, already existing applications in this regard, especially for welding check.
