Abstract:
The policy in the environmental protection field requires an accurate knowledge of the air pollution level. Thus, a great attention is conferred to the understanding of dispersion process of pollutants released in the atmosphere. In order to evaluate the air quality within the impact zone of the ARPECHIM (Pitesti) petrochemical plant, a local scale dispersion model has been developed, which calculates long-term pollutant concentration assuming a gaussian distribution and a joint frequency of occurrence (wind speed, wind direction and atmospheric stability) computed from a long meteorological data base. The annual mean concentrations and the associated statistical parameters for SO2, CO and NOX pollutants were computed using a five year meteorological database. The good correlation between the observed and simulated values shows that the model may be used as tool to predict the concentrations of pollutants.
