Abstract:
This paper aims to find relationships between optical properties of aerosols and different conditions of relative humidity. The optical parameters of aerosols were simulated using OPAC (Optical Properties of Aerosols and Clouds) Software package. We considered four types of aerosols: volcanic, urban, continental polluted and desert dust. Simulations were made for different amounts of critical component for each aerosol type in 20 iterations. We obtained results for 0, 50, 70, 80, 90, 95, 98, 99 % of relative humidity for Lidar Ratio(LR) at 550 and 350 nm, for Single Scattering Albedo(SSA) at 550 nm and Angstrom Exponent. Using these results we were able to characterize potential hygroscopicity for 4 aerosol types and the changes in their properties due to humidity. Experimental results from lidar and microwave radiometer measurements were used to investigate the validity of the simulations.
