Abstract:
Blasts discrimination is an important research topic and a variety of methods have been proposed in numerous studies for this purpose (Telesca et al., 2011, Horasan et al., 2009, Gulia 2009, Koch and Fah 2002, Parolai et al., 2002, Kafka 1990, Bath 1975). However, the dissociation between blasts and low magnitude earthquakes remains a very difficult problem. The aim of the study is to analyze the waveforms recorded by the BURAR (Romania) seismic array, placed in the North-Eastern part of the country, in order to identify artificial events included in the Romanian seismic catalog Romplus (Oncescu et al., 1999). The analyzed events belong to different regions, and were recorded by the BURAR seismic array between 2005 and 2011. For each zone all alleged blasts and natural earthquakes were considered, and different techniques, such as Pg/Lg spectral ratio, Fourier spectra, as well as distributions of events function of month, day of week and local origin time were applied in order to consistently filter the blasts from the catalog.
