Abstract:
Many theoretical and experimental attempts have been made in alkali halides to understand the mechanism of charge compensation of the divalent impurities. In the high field limit the EPR spectra exhibit an important simplification. Three different charge compensation mechanisms was observed for the Mn2+ ions. The multifrequency analysis of the EPR spectra corresponding to the three mechanisms allowed us to identify the local symmetry change due to the charge compensation. By heating and quenching, we have found the intensification of the number of paramagnetic Mn2+ centers due to the compensation in the first neighboring and the corresponding diminution of the other charge compensation mechanisms.
