Abstract:
In 2010 was awarded the Nobile Prize for graphene. But the graphene is still an interesting topic for study. We investigated a new type of 2D crystals – spirographene (spiro-conjugated carbon nanostructures). An 3D analogue for spirographene is the glitter, which was discovered in 1994. In order to make clear these quantum proprieties, we analyzed the structures with reduced dimensions like zero-dimensions effective quantum dots. In this article we studied the most important properties of spirogrsphene and graphene quantum dots: BandGap value, fast excitation energy and its characteristic spectrum. Obtaining of those size dependent characteristics, we compared the results for graphene and for spirographene. We obtained the limit of transition from a quantum structure to bulk, demonstrate the maximum dimension of quantum dot. This phenomena is possible due to the total localization of electrons. These results could help in implementation of carbon structures in technology and to discover new forms of nano-carbon, like spiro-nano-tubes , spiro-nano-corns, etc, with potential application in energy conversion and storage Note:This work was financially supported by contract PNCDI-II-IDEI/64/2011
