Abstract:
The measurements of the total solar irradiance (TSI) made since November 1978 with satellite radiometers, conclusively shown that the Sun’s radiative output varies on time scales from minutes to years, evidencing even the 11-year solar cycle. Here we summarize the possible reasons of this variation, and we make an analysis of the sources that have the higher correlation with it. Considering the solar magnetic field as the prime source of the solar variability, we analyze in detail the data from the Kitt Peak Vacuum Telescope NASA/NSO spectromagnetograph during the period 1992 – 2000 and we compare the results with the TSI variation.
