Abstract:
The aim of the paper is to assess air quality in urban environment. The temporal variability of mass concentrations of gaseous pollutants: VOC (volatile organic compounds, others than the usual inorganic oxides), CO, SO2, NOx in Athens for 2009-2011 period was studied. In addition, the concentration values were correlated with the odor measurement values for the same monitoring stations but for a few months. The highest values of the CO and VOC mass concentrations were observed in summer days. The polymer-based and oxide-based sensors and the newer electronic noses were used to obtain data files for odor assessment. The odor analysis due to gaseous pollution showed the efficiency of the polymer’s sensors. A good correlation between VOC, SO2 mass concentration and odor data were obtained.
