Abstract:
The present work admits the existence of the aether as the medium responsible for the propagation of light. The aether is a liquid that permeates the material bodies down to the atomic level in the same way water permeates a wire mesh scrubber soaked in water. When the wire mesh is removed from the water the liquid occupies the volume vacated by the material of the mesh and so does the aether that fills the whole space when matter is evacuated from a container. This conception of the aether was supported through centuries by important figures that contributed to the development of science: Huygens, Fresnel, Young, Maxwell, Stokes, Lord Kelvin, Lorentz and many others. Taking this view as a fundament, the author advances the new theory that electric charges flowing along a current-carrying wire produce wakes in the aether in the same way a boat produces wakes when moving on the surface of water. This leads to the conclusion that the physical nature of what we call magnetic field is represented by the aether wakes produced by the moving electric charges. The work shows how the aether flow generated in this way gives a correct and straightforward fluid mechanical explanation of the Oersted effect, of the Ampere force between two parallel wires carrying direct currents, of the forces between two magnetic poles and explains why magnetic monopoles cannot exist isolated but are always found in opposite pairs. The author performed some experiments in fluid mechanics that support these views and can show these observations in a short video.
