Abstract:
Solar flares cause various phenomena in the solar upper atmosphere but also produce some impulsive phenomena in the photosphere, which convert into powerful solar quakes. Using the radiative hydrodynamic simulations of moderate and strong solar flares RADYN (Carlsson, 1995) we have simulated the atmospheric response to a beam of nonthermal electrons accelerated during flares, focusing on understanding the generation of local disturbances at the photospheric level. The downward-directed photons cause "back-warming": heating of the lower atmosphere due to increased photoionizations. We will present flare simulations of RADYN for electron fluxes of 10^8, 10^9, 10^10 and 10^11 egs/cm^2/s.
